Cyber Attacks on the rise

Cyber Attacks on the rise

by Tinder Corp Media, 5th April 2022

In the wake of the devastating Russian attacks on the Ukraine, so called ‘spillover’ cyber-attacks on both public and private targets have increased dramatically within the UK.

This is particularly the case for those companies conducting business internationally and those working with government agencies.

The main targets are those concerned with critical infrastructure such as financial services, governments and utilities, but at the end of the day, no one is completely safe.

Although the Ukrainian conflict has emphasised and increased these events, incidences of cyber-attacks have been going up steadily for some time and are now, more than ever, a major concern for businesses, and indeed or private users.

Corporate IT teams handled 623 million ransomware attacks in 2021, up 105% year on year, according to security vendor SonicWall, and this is just one of myriad worrying statistics being released from industry experts.

So what can you do?

Prevention is better than cure, so recognising and disrupting attacks early on is always going to be the safest way of handling cybercrime. Many criminals will attack in multiple stages, and so implementing security controls and processes that can mitigate the risks should be your first port of call.

Up your security

Essential security tools have been developed specifically to mitigate these risks and stop cyber criminals in their tracks (check out our article on cyber essentials here), and measures include

  • Malware protection
  • Boundary firewalls
  • Internet gateways
  • Password policies
  • User access controls
  • Patch management

..to name just a few.

Next steps

Although the statistics, along with the sheer number of preventative measures available, can make the cyber-situation look very bleak, the truth is that implementing good cyber security processes can drastically reduce your chances of being the victim of cybercrime. Criminals are primarily looking for easy targets, so make life hard for them!

At Tinder we deal with a host of different business sectors and are completely up to date with the latest security measures. If you’d like advice on what to do to secure your business, or would simply like one of your experts to help put your mind at ease, then please give us a call.

Stay safe
